Obtaining second U.S. passport

Second passport is issued at the U.S. Department of State discretion for one of the following reasons:

Frequent traveler does not have time to apply for visas between trips.
For security purposes (for example, when traveling between Israel and anti-Israeli states).

Second passports are valid for a period of 2 years and can be extended upon expiration if necessary.

11-14 business days: $44⁹⁵

7-10 business days: $99⁹⁵

4-6 business days: $149⁹⁵

1-3 business days: $199⁹⁵

Gathering the necessary documents to apply for second passport

Passport renewal application online: DS-82 online: Fill out the passport renewal application online . Click on "Continue" under "Apply for a Passport Book" column and print the application. Be sure to sign and date your application.

Statement for Second Passport (sample): Please write and sign the Statement in Support of Application for Second Passport.

Current valid passport: You are required to present your primary passport with your application. If your current passport is within 1 year of expiration you will need to renew your passport before applying

Letter of Authorization: Please print, sign, and date the letter.

Two (2) passport photos: Photos must be recent, identical, 2x2 inches, not from a vending machine. More on photo requirements

Travel itinerary: - Copy of a plane ticket to a foreign country, or
- Copy of a travel itinerary with the applicant's name showing dates and flight info, or if neither is available and traveling for business
- A letter from the employer.
For the 24 hour passport service travel dates must be within 14 days.

Payment: Certified Check or Money Order for $135 payable to the " US Department of State "
