The Vienna Airport Dialogue Forum has notified stakeholders that runway 16/34 will be closed from 21:00 local time on Tuesday 14 April until 07:00 on Thursday 16 April for scheduled maintenance. The closure, announced on the Dialogue Forum’s website, is timed to avoid infringement of Austria’s strict night-flight quota of 4,700 annual movements. During the 34-hour shutdown, aircraft will use the parallel runway 11/29, potentially altering noise footprints over communities south-east of the field. Airlines have been asked to file alternative departure procedures, and Eurocontrol’s Network Manager has issued a flow-management message warning of minor slot constraints in the late-evening departure bank to Istanbul, Doha and Dubai. Logistics companies relying on late-night freighter departures should verify slot allocations, while corporate shippers may experience slight delays on express consignments routed through Vienna.

Ground handlers advise travellers to allow extra transfer time between terminals and remote stands because some stands normally served by 16/34 taxiways will be reassigned. The airport operator stresses that the works are essential to prepare pavement and lighting systems for the upcoming summer-peak traffic and for increased A321XLR operations expected from Q3 2026. No further full-runway closures are planned before September, but additional overnight taxiway restrictions may be issued via NOTAM.
