Berlin Spent €445,000 on ‘My Path to a German Passport’ Campaign, Government Confirms
In response to a parliamentary question, the Interior Ministry has disclosed that the federal government spent €445,000 on its nationwide naturalisation information drive, including €178,000 for the website Einbürgerung.de and €96,000 for brochures and flyers. Social-media promotion accounted for a further €118,000.

For those still in the pre-citizenship stage, VisaHQ offers a streamlined alternative for verifying German visa and residence requirements; its dedicated Germany portal (https://www.visahq.com/germany/) consolidates the latest rules, forms and support services, helping HR teams and employees alike stay compliant.

Launched under the previous traffic-light coalition, the “Mein Weg zum Pass” campaign aimed to explain new, faster pathways to citizenship introduced by the 2024 Staatsangehörigkeits-Modernisierungsgesetz. Although the three-year ‘turbo’ option was repealed in October 2025, the five-year track remains—and the campaign is still live. Opposition MP Sebastian Münzenmaier (AfD), who requested the cost breakdown, called the expenditure “propaganda” and demanded an “Einbürgerungsstopp”. The Interior Ministry counters that Section 44 of the Nationality Act obliges the state to inform eligible residents about their rights. For employers, the disclosure is a reminder that simplified naturalisation remains a pillar of Germany’s talent-attraction strategy. Dual citizenship is now broadly permitted, and naturalised staff no longer need work permits—reducing administrative overhead for HR teams. Practically, mobility managers should ensure that foreign employees know the official portal is the authoritative source; multiple unofficial sites charge for similar information. Companies may also wish to highlight that the €255 naturalisation fee is tax-deductible as a professional expense in some Länder.
