Helsinki Airport expands ticket-free parking to P3–P5 zones
Finavia has confirmed that Helsinki Airport will extend its ticket-less, number-plate-recognition parking system to the outdoor P3, P4 and P5 areas between late April and the end of May 2026. The technology—already in place in the P1 Premium and P2 multi-storey halls—reads a vehicle’s registration plate on entry and exit, automatically calculating the fee and eliminating paper tickets. For corporate mobility managers, the change means drivers will no longer need to retain paper stubs for expense claims. Digital receipts can be downloaded via QR code or the Finavia portal for up to seven days, simplifying reimbursement workflows for employees collecting company cars after a flight.

Travelers who will be picking up a rental or company car at Helsinki Airport and then continuing onward—whether into Finland or across the Schengen zone—may also need to make sure their visa documentation is in order. VisaHQ can manage those requirements online, letting users complete applications, receive status updates and download confirmations in one place, mirroring the airport’s own drive toward paperless convenience. Corporate travel departments can even submit multiple requests simultaneously, reducing prep time before those early-morning departures. Details are available at https://www.visahq.com/finland/

Cash payments remain possible at the terminal information desk, but Finavia expects most users to opt for contactless card or mobile payments at the exit. The airport authority says the upgrade will shorten exit queues, particularly on Monday mornings when commuter flights to Stockholm, Copenhagen and Oulu see peak car-park turnover. It also removes a common pinch-point for chauffeured transfers meeting long-haul arrivals from Asia and North America, where drivers previously had to locate physical tickets before leaving the garage. Finavia is coupling the rollout with signage reminding motorists to keep licence plates free of snow and dirt—an important point given Finland’s long winter season. The authority notes that plate obscuration is the main reason for manual intervention under the current ticket-less regime. Helsinki Airport handled 17.3 million passengers in 2025, with roughly 35 percent arriving by private car. The expanded system is part of a €1 billion decade-long terminal renewal project aimed at positioning the hub as the fastest transfer point between Asia and Europe.
