Embratur launches China-focused marketing blitz as reciprocal visa-free travel takes hold
Brazil’s national tourism promotion body, Embratur, chose 28 May 2026 to unveil its first large-scale advertising campaign aimed squarely at the Chinese leisure and MICE market. The timing is deliberate: since 11 May a 30-day, non-extendable visa-waiver has allowed ordinary-passport holders from the People’s Republic of China to enter Brazil for tourism, business meetings, trade fairs, artistic performances and certain short-term technical activities. Created by São Paulo agency Propeg, the multi-channel campaign was rolled out at the ITB China travel trade fair in Shanghai. A 60-second hero film—plus four 20-second cut-downs—follows a blue-and-gold macaw that “invites” a Chinese couple to iconic Brazilian locations from Rio’s Christ the Redeemer to the wetlands of the Pantanal and the dunes of Lençóis Maranhenses. Spots will run on Chinese connected-TV platforms, Weibo, WeChat video feeds, programmatic display and large digital out-of-home screens in Shanghai metro stations.

Behind the creative push is a hard-nosed commercial objective. Embratur projects that Chinese arrivals, which rose 28 % in 2025 to 103,000 visitors, could surpass 140,000 this year, generating more than US$250 million in direct local spending. Brazil’s aviation ministry is already negotiating additional Guangzhou–São Paulo frequencies and a new Beijing–Rio service in partnership with China Southern and LATAM Airlines to absorb expected demand.

For travellers and travel coordinators navigating these new options, VisaHQ can be an invaluable resource. Even though Chinese passport holders are now visa-exempt for short stays, longer assignments, multi-country itineraries or last-minute documentation needs can still crop up; VisaHQ’s Brazil page (https://www.visahq.com/brazil/) centralises the latest entry rules, offers digital application services for any required permits and provides real-time expert support, helping companies keep their mobility programmes compliant and friction-free.

For mobility and corporate-travel managers the message is clear: the combination of visa-free entry, additional airlift and a government-backed awareness campaign removes significant friction from Brazil–China business travel. Brazilian firms with interests in agribusiness, mining and renewable energy—sectors that receive high levels of Chinese investment—should review their invitation protocols and destination-service capacity. Conversely, Brazilian executives can continue to enjoy China’s own 30-day visa waiver (in force since 1 June 2025) until at least 31 December 2026, simplifying two-way assignments and project kick-offs. Trade bodies such as the Brazil-China Business Council recommend that companies audit their travel-risk programmes: although visas are no longer required, proof of onward or return travel, hotel bookings and medical insurance are still requested sporadically at immigration counters. Large corporates are also advised to brief Chinese visitors on Brazil’s e-migration forms (pre-registration is encouraged but not mandatory) and to arrange for Mandarin-capable meet-and-greet services in São Paulo and Rio while the local ground-handler market scales up. Ultimately, the visa-free regime and the accompanying marketing surge mark the biggest opening of Brazil’s inbound market since the 2016 Olympic Games—one that mobility professionals can leverage immediately for facility visits, incentive trips and exploratory investment missions.
