Canada Drops Visa Requirement for Brazilian Visitors From July 15
In a move that dramatically simplifies north-south travel, the Government of Canada confirmed on 22 May 2026 that Brazilian citizens with ordinary passports will no longer need a visitor visa to enter Canada for tourism or short-term business from 15 July 2026. Travel will instead be authorised through a low-cost electronic travel authorization (eTA) that can be issued in about three days and is valid for multiple trips of up to six months each.

Canada Drops Visa Requirement for Brazilian Visitors From July 15

Travellers who prefer a seamless application experience can turn to VisaHQ. Through its Brazil-focused portal (https://www.visahq.com/brazil/), the service guides applicants step-by-step, reviews documentation for accuracy and submits the eTA request on their behalf, helping ensure quick approval and peace of mind before boarding a flight to Canada.

Canadian officials said the decision follows a 40 percent jump in enquiries from Brazil over the past 12 months and is designed to encourage spending in cities such as Toronto, Vancouver and Montréal in the run-up to the FIFA World Cup. Airlines reacted almost immediately: Air Canada added extra frequencies on its Rio-de-Janeiro route and is evaluating seasonal São Paulo services for the high-demand Christmas period. Rio-based tour operators reported a 25 percent spike in package bookings to Banff, Niagara Falls and Quebec within 48 hours of the announcement. Although the eTA is cheaper and faster than a full visa—costing just CAD 7—Brazilian travellers must still hold a biometric passport, buy travel insurance that meets Provincial health-care reimbursement rules and be ready to show proof of funds and onward travel at the border. Work and study activities continue to require the appropriate Canadian permits and are outside the scope of the waiver. Corporate mobility managers should update their policy matrices quickly: employees bound for conferences or exploratory sales meetings can now travel on an eTA provided the trip is under six months and no hands-on work is performed. Canadian immigration authorities will review the programme after 18 months; early non-compliance could jeopardise its renewal, so multinationals are advising staff to carry invitation letters and maintain meticulous travel records. The waiver also positions Canada competitively against Schengen destinations, which still require Brazilian nationals to obtain visas for stays over 90 days. Brazil’s foreign ministry, Itamaraty, welcomed the decision, noting that talks on reciprocal 10-year multiple-entry business visas are ongoing. If those negotiations succeed, Canada would join Chile and Argentina in offering long-term travel flexibility to Brazilian professionals, further widening the country’s global mobility options.
