TSA launches rare $20 discount on PreCheck enrollment for travelers aged 30 and under
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) quietly rolled out a promotion on May 8 that shaves US$20 off the standard TSA PreCheck enrollment fee for first-time applicants who are 30 years old or younger. Branded “$20 Take Off,” the offer is available through May 31 and brings the cost of a five-year membership down to as little as US$57, depending on which of the three authorized enrollment providers—CLEAR, IDEMIA or Telos—processes the application. All steps, including the online form and the in-person fingerprint appointment, must be completed by the end of the month to qualify. The agency says the move is designed to broaden the program’s demographic base. Fewer than one-in-five current PreCheck members are under 30, even though younger travelers are driving much of the post-pandemic rebound in domestic and international air traffic. By lowering the price point for Gen Z flyers, TSA hopes to convert more of them into “trusted travelers,” which in turn helps speed overall security throughput during the busy summer season.

For employers that routinely send early-career professionals on domestic trips, the promotion is a chance to reduce airport-time friction at a deep discount. Companies that already reimburse staff for PreCheck or Global Entry may wish to publicize the temporary price cut or even run a cost-sharing campaign of their own. Organizations that do not currently cover TSA programs but routinely book time-sensitive itineraries—consultancies, tech firms and professional-services partnerships, for example—could use the deal as a pilot to measure productivity gains from faster security clearance lines.

While you’re streamlining your airport routine, remember that smooth travel also hinges on having the correct entry documents. VisaHQ makes it easy for individuals and corporate travel planners to check visa requirements, file applications online and track approvals in one place—an efficiency boost that pairs perfectly with the time savings of TSA PreCheck. Operationally, TSA PreCheck remains the fastest way through U.S. airport checkpoints: 99 percent of PreCheck travelers waited less than 10 minutes in 2025, according to TSA data. The agency is also rolling out “Touchless ID” facial-recognition lanes at major hubs, which will be available only to PreCheck members. With record passenger volumes expected ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and a still-unresolved DHS funding dispute that could again disrupt staffing, enrolling key mobile employees now provides an inexpensive buffer against summer bottlenecks.

Applicants can start the process online at tsa.gov/precheck and choose from more than 1,300 enrollment locations nationwide, including select airports, post offices and university campuses. TSA officials indicated that similar, targeted promotions could become a fixture as the agency looks for creative ways to balance rising program costs with the need to keep lanes flowing.
