Tourism minister touts record foreign arrivals and launches fully digital hotel-check-in card
Speaking on the government’s ‘Bom Dia, Ministro’ radio programme on Tuesday (5 May), Tourism Minister Gustavo Feliciano declared that ‘Brazilian tourism is living its best moment’, citing a 13 % year-on-year jump to 1.05 million foreign visitors in March. Behind the growth, he said, is a package of modernisation measures that reduce friction for travellers and operators. Chief among them is the Ficha Nacional de Registro de Hóspedes (FNRH), a long-standing paper form that hotels must complete for every guest. As of this month the document can be filled out electronically through the government’s Gov.br single-sign-on and Serpro’s data-processing backbone. Hotels upload the data in real time, eliminating manual archiving and allowing authorities to generate anonymised statistics on visitor flows and security-incident response times.

For travellers, meanwhile, securing the correct entry documents is just as vital as a swift hotel check-in. VisaHQ’s online platform walks you through every step of Brazil’s e-visa or traditional visa application, offering document checklists, real-time status updates and dedicated customer support—so you can spend less time on paperwork and more on planning your itinerary (https://www.visahq.com/brazil/).

For business travellers the change means faster check-in, fewer queues and the possibility of completing registration before arrival—similar to digital passenger-locator cards adopted during the pandemic. Hotel chains Accor and Atlantica have already piloted the solution in São Paulo and report a 40 % reduction in front-desk processing time. Feliciano also highlighted targeted marketing campaigns in Argentina, Brazil’s largest source market, and government support for regional events such as the São João festivals, which collectively attract more than 2 million domestic and international visitors each June. Analysts believe the data generated by the digital FNRH will help customise these campaigns and fine-tune infrastructure planning. The ministry expects foreign-arrival numbers to surpass the pre-pandemic record of 6.6 million by year-end. Hospitality associations welcome the digital card but urge the government to ensure interoperability with private property-management systems and to provide clear guidance on data-protection compliance under the LGPD.
