German Legal Expert Warns New EU Asylum Rules Could Exclude Vulnerable Refugees
Migration lawyer Claire Deery told Evangelisch.de on 31 May that the EU’s revamped asylum system, starting 12 June, could see refugees from statistically ‘safe’ countries rejected within days, before their individual stories are heard. She warns that vulnerable people may slip through the cracks and that delays in status recognition will ultimately hurt German employers who rely on refugees to fill skill shortages.
