Early trials indicate that per-vehicle processing time has fallen by roughly 10 percent, a boon for the 46,000 commuters who drive across the boundary each day. The upgrade extends Hengqin’s earlier success with passenger e-channels, which processed 4.6 million “face-scan” travellers since November. Authorities say the two-zone, one-stop model will eventually link with Guangdong’s road-pricing platform, allowing automatic duty assessment for goods carried in private cars. For corporate fleets, the change reduces engine-idling time, lowers fuel costs and offers more predictable arrival slots for meetings on Cotai’s gaming strip or Hengqin’s free-trade zone offices.
