UAE Lifts Airspace Restrictions, Restores Full Flight Operations
The United Arab Emirates’ General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) confirmed late on 2 May 2026 that all precautionary restrictions imposed on its airspace have been lifted and normal flight operations have resumed. The measure ends more than nine weeks of route diversions, slot caps and schedule volatility triggered by regional security tensions after the 28 February missile-and-drone attacks on Gulf states.

Travel arrangers who need to verify that passports and entry documentation are in order can streamline the process through VisaHQ, which provides fast UAE visa services and real-time application tracking: https://www.visahq.com/united-arab-emirates/ The platform’s specialists can also advise on any lingering security notations that airlines may still require before boarding.

In its statement, the GCAA said the decision followed “a comprehensive evaluation of operational and security conditions” carried out with military and intelligence counterparts. Real-time monitoring systems will remain active, but carriers may once again plan direct routings over Emirati territory and use the country’s full complement of approach and departure corridors. The return to normal operations will be welcomed by the thousands of business travellers whose itineraries had been disrupted by rolling NOTAMs, lengthier block times and sudden slot withdrawals—particularly at Dubai International (DXB) and Abu Dhabi International (AUH), the region’s two busiest hubs. Airlines had been forced to consolidate rotations, up-gauge aircraft and in some cases route flights through Muscat or Dammam to avoid congestion. For corporate mobility managers, the lifting of restrictions removes a significant layer of uncertainty. Travel insurance policies that were temporarily voided for “war-risk” routings will revert to standard coverage, and companies can once again rely on Middle East hubs for same-day connections to Africa, South Asia and Europe. Logistics teams should nonetheless keep contingency plans in place as authorities warned that swift re-imposition of measures remains possible should the security picture deteriorate. Travel-advisory platforms are already updating risk ratings, and global distribution systems (GDS) have begun releasing previously suppressed inventory. Passengers are advised to re-confirm flight times, as airlines rebalance schedules to pre-February levels over the next week.
