UAE Imposes Travel Ban on Nationals Visiting Iran, Lebanon and Iraq
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has instructed Emirati citizens not to travel to Iran, Lebanon or Iraq with immediate effect, citing “current developments in the region.” The directive, published late on 30 April, also urges any UAE citizens already in those countries to return home as soon as possible. Although the ministry did not elaborate, the announcement comes amid escalating tensions around the Strait of Hormuz and a spike in cross-border strikes between Israel and armed groups in south Lebanon. Iran, for its part, warned on Thursday that it would retaliate against any renewed US attacks and claimed it could block the strategic waterway.

At moments like this, visa and document services become critical. VisaHQ’s UAE platform (https://www.visahq.com/united-arab-emirates/) provides up-to-date guidance on entry restrictions, rapid passport renewals and alternative visa routes, giving HR teams a single dashboard to track shifting requirements and keep employees compliant while contingency plans are activated.

The UAE maintains close commercial links with all three countries, and hundreds of UAE-based companies regularly send staff on rotation to projects in Tehran, Beirut and Basra. For corporate mobility teams the ban has immediate operational consequences: duty-of-care protocols must now treat all business travel to the three countries as disallowed, while assignees working on medium-term secondee visas will need emergency repatriation plans. HR managers should also revisit global mobility insurance policies, which may exclude cover once a formal government travel ban is in place. Companies with exposure to the region are already pivoting to virtual engagement tools and “near-shore” hubs such as Bahrain and Doha to keep projects moving. Immigration advisers expect the travel ban to be reviewed every 30 days, but warn that a prolonged regional stand-off could see it extended or even expanded to additional high-risk jurisdictions.
