United Arab Emirates Tourist e Visa
The UAE tourist e-visa is also called a Dubai or Abu Dhabi visa, specially designed for tourists coming from eligible countries. The official entry document is for short-term purposes or trips that last between 30 – 180 days. How long you stay in the Kingdom will depend on your passport. For instance, Mexicans can stay for up to 180 days, while other nationals may stay for 30, 60, or 90 days.
Some of the countries on the e-visa list are also on the visa on arrival list too, but applying for the former is better since you will not have to wait in long queues at the airport for a visa if you choose the second option. Kindly note that unless under special circumstances, this visa is issued as a single entry visa.

United Arab Emirates Visa Policy
The United Arab Emirates has a well-defined policy that explains the requirements all visitors must meet before they are allowed into the Kingdom. The Immigration Law of the UAE controls the flow of foreign nationals entering and exiting its territories. According to Federal Law 6 (1973), all visitors coming to the UAE must have valid visas except in the case of visa-exempt individuals.
Citizens from GCC countries are the only category of individuals who can enter the UAE freely without visas.
United Arab Emirates Visa-Free Countries
The visa-free countries of the UAE are Gulf Cooperation Council countries, namely
- Bahrain – Kuwait – Saudi Arabia – Oman – Qatar
Nationals from these countries can enter the UAE with a valid ID only or a passport issued by their home government.
Other Visa-Free Countries
Apart from GCC countries, there is an additional set of countries whose citizens can enter without a visa or are eligible for a visa on arrival. Visitors in this category cannstwy in the UAE for 30 days, 60 days, 90 days and 180 days. The number of visa free days is dependent on the applicant's passport. However, unlike GCC nationals who can enter the UAE with valid IDs, all other nationals can only do so with valid passports issued to them by their home governments.
Note: Indian citizens with valid US or European Union visas or resident permits are eligible for 14 days visa on arrival.
Important Points To Note About The UAE e Visa
As you prepare for your trip to the UAE, here is some Important information to bear in mind.
UAE Immigration: The immigration authorities of the UAE are mandated by law to check every visitor coming into the country, and this includes persons with visas. When you arrive at the checkpoint, you will be asked to provide your passport and travel documents and also asked questions about your trip. Make sure you give clear and honest answers, as they will compare your answers to the documents you present. The immigration authorities have every right to turn back visitors that cannot defend their reasons for being in the country.
Eligibility: Note that only persons from eligible countries can apply for e visas. And they must have valid passports as proof of their citizenship. They must also have the intention of leaving the UAE once their visa expires with no plans for long term visits. Another eligibility criteria is that they must possess the financial capacity to foot their bills throughout their stay in the UAE.
Passport: You must use the same passport for your application and travel because the e-visa you will be given is linked to the passport. Presenting a different passport to the officers on duty at the airport is enough grounds for entry denial. If your current passport does not cover the duration of your time in the United Arab Emirates, do apply for a new passport before submitting your e-visa application.
Not For Work: The electronic visa program is for tourism, business, and transit visitors rather than for work. Persons caught working in the UAE without a work visa will be sanctioned by the authorities and deported.
Don’t Overstay: Be aware of the number of days travelers from your country are allowed to stay in the UAE, whether that is 30,60,90, or 180 days.
Be mindful of this information, and do not overstay your welcome in the country. If you do, you will be fined for every extra day before you will be allowed to leave the country. Illegal immigrants will be forcefully deported.
Hold A Copy: Despite being a tourist hub it is not uncommon for visitors to be stopped by local law enforcement and questioned on the streets about their identity. In such a situation, a copy of your e visa will save you a lot of explanation and stress. Once your visa is approved, print out a copy and make sure you travel to the UAE with it.
Respect The Customs: The United Arab Emirates is a strictly conservative Muslim country with strong traditions. Always respect the local laws and customs of the Kingdom to avoid upsetting the authorities and the locals. To be on the safe side, do well to study the laws so you will not violate them by accident.
Non Convertible: You cannot convert your visa while you are already inside the country. For instance, if you applied for a single entry visa, you cannot convert it to a multiple entry visa nor can you convert an e visa to a long term consular visa. If you decide to change visas you must leave the country and apply for a new one abroad.
