Canada issues 9,407 new work-and-travel invitations under International Experience Canada
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has dramatically accelerated its spring recruitment campaign for youth mobility, releasing 9,407 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) under the International Experience Canada (IEC) program between 28 March and 10 April 2026 . IEC is Canada’s flagship reciprocal work-and-travel scheme that lets 18- to 35-year-olds from 36 partner economies spend up to two years living and working in Canada. The latest bi-weekly round saw especially large allocations to Japan (2,411 ITAs), the United Kingdom (1,849), South Korea (1,223) and Australia (1,019), while France, Ireland, Germany and Italy also received several hundred invitations each . By front-loading selections in Q2, Ottawa is trying to ensure that permit holders arrive in time for the summer hiring peak in tourism, agriculture and hospitality. Year-to-date, 62,714 IEC invitations have already been issued—roughly 55 % of the 2026 program quota. Consultants report that candidate pools for some countries are shrinking fast; once a national quota is filled no further invitations will be sent. Young professionals who are still "in the pool" therefore face the best odds of the entire year right now, but only for a few more weeks.

If you’ve just received an ITA and are scrambling to assemble paperwork, VisaHQ can take much of the administrative burden off your shoulders. Through its dedicated Canada page (https://www.visahq.com/canada/), the service walks applicants through every IEC requirement, offers live support, and even arranges secure document delivery—helping you hit IRCC’s tight 20-day submission window with confidence.

For Canadian employers the surge provides a much-needed source of seasonal labour without the red tape of Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs). IEC participants can start work as soon as their biometrics are completed, giving businesses in remote resort towns and large cities alike a timely talent pipeline. Multinationals that rotate junior staff through Canadian offices also rely on the program, because an IEC work permit counts as Canadian experience and can later underpin a permanent-residence application. Practically, candidates who receive an ITA must submit their online work-permit application within 20 days and enter Canada before their letter of introduction expires (usually within one year). Employers are advised to issue employment contracts quickly and to enrol in provincial health-insurance plans as delays may leave newcomers without coverage. Travel managers should remind IEC participants that they must maintain private health insurance for the full duration of their stay, even if they later gain access to a provincial system.
