PNP-focused Express Entry draw of 13 April issues 324 invitations at record-high CRS 786
Just 24 hours before its CEC round, IRCC conducted a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)-only Express Entry draw on 13 April 2026, inviting 324 candidates who already hold a provincial nomination. Because a nomination automatically adds 600 points, the minimum CRS required was a hefty 786. Although small in absolute numbers, PNP draws are strategically important for Canadian provinces that compete aggressively for specialised talent in health care, construction and the digital economy. Eight PNP rounds have now been held in 2026, confirming Ottawa’s commitment to devolving more selection power to provinces even as it prepares to overhaul the entire Express Entry framework later this year. For employers, the advantage of backing a nominee is speed and certainty: most provinces process nominations in a few weeks, and IRCC’s current service standard for PNP-Express Entry applications is about seven months. However, the high CRS cut-off means that employers must ensure nominees meet every provincial criterion—language, education and settlement funds—before investing in the process.

For candidates and HR teams trying to keep track of those shifting requirements, VisaHQ can simplify the logistics: the company’s Canada portal (https://www.visahq.com/canada/) offers real-time document checklists, fee calculators and concierge support that help applicants obtain everything from police certificates to travel visas, reducing administrative friction throughout the PNP and Express Entry journey.

Companies with operations in multiple provinces should also note that several jurisdictions (Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta) have already exhausted more than half of their 2026 federal nomination allocations. Late-year nominations could therefore become scarcer, pushing businesses to consider alternative pathways such as the Atlantic Immigration Program or the Global Talent Stream. Immigration lawyers caution that the forthcoming Express Entry reforms—outlined in a discussion paper released on 8 April—may collapse existing economic classes into a single points grid weighted more heavily toward Canadian work experience and job offers, potentially shrinking the relative advantage of a provincial nomination in 2027 and beyond.
