Finland Keeps Land Border With Russia Closed Until Moscow Gives Security Guarantees
President Alexander Stubb said Finland will not reopen its land border with Russia until the Kremlin provides firm guarantees that migrants will not be used as a tool of political pressure. The closure—first imposed in December 2023—continues to disrupt trade routes, increase logistics costs and complicate business travel between the two neighbours. Companies should plan for alternative sea and air links and prepare for stricter biometric controls when crossings eventually resume.
