Cathay Pacific to reopen re-imagined ‘The Wing, First’ lounge on 22 April
Cathay Pacific has unveiled a top-to-toe redesign of its flagship first-class lounge, The Wing, at Hong Kong International Airport, ahead of its customer reopening on 22 April 2026. Announced on 20 April, the revamp is part of the airline’s HK$100 billion multi-year investment in premium ground and inflight products that aims to re-establish Hong Kong’s hub credentials after pandemic-era disruptions. Working again with London design house StudioIlse, Cathay has retained the famous green-onyx bar but introduced walnut-wood accents, granite flooring and bespoke furniture to create what CEO Ronald Lam calls a “residential yet distinctly Hong Kong aesthetic.”

For travellers eager to sample the newly refreshed lounge, making sure all visa formalities are in order is the first step. VisaHQ’s digital portal (https://www.visahq.com/hong-kong/) streamlines visa checks and applications for over 200 nationalities bound for Hong Kong, delivering real-time status updates and courier pick-up options that remove the paperwork pain so you can focus on enjoying Cathay’s elevated experience.

The lounge now features an atrium pantry offering all-day self-serve dining, a refreshed à-la-carte restaurant with seasonally rotating menus developed in partnership with Mott 32, and a wellness zone—The Retreat—offering complimentary neck-and-shoulder massages in private booths. From a mobility standpoint, the refurbishment increases seating capacity by 15 percent and adds fully enclosed work pods with adaptive lighting, catering to the growing cohort of remote workers on the go. High-speed Wi-Fi has been upgraded to Wi-Fi 6E, and each seat now includes 100-watt USB-C charging—a nod to travellers’ heavier tech loads. The reopening comes as premium demand rebounds: Cathay reported a 28 percent year-on-year rise in first-class bookings for Q1 2026, driven chiefly by finance and tech executives shuttling between Hong Kong and North America. The airline will next refurbish The Wing, Business before turning its attention to a new lounge in New York’s JFK Terminal 6 later this year, signalling that the carrier’s lounge strategy remains core to its corporate-travel value proposition. For corporate mobility managers, the upgrade means elite travellers transiting through HKIA gain access to faster showers, expanded workspaces and elevated dining—all factors that can shave valuable minutes off ground time and enhance employee satisfaction scores. However, Cathay has simultaneously tightened entry criteria: only on-day first-class ticket holders and Diamond Marco Polo members may enter, ending the paid-access trial launched in 2023.
