Iberia resumes Madrid–Caracas service, restoring key Spain–Latin America air link
Spanish flag-carrier Iberia will restart flights between Madrid-Barajas and Caracas on 7 April 2026 after a four-month suspension, Venezuelan business outlet Banca y Negocios reports. The airline plans four weekly frequencies—Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays—operated with a Privilege Style-leased Airbus A330-200 while its own wide-body fleet undergoes maintenance rotations. The route is critical for bilateral business travel, oil-sector logistics and family reunification traffic between Spain and Venezuela. One-way fares start at US$1,360 in economy, including a 23 kg checked bag and free seat assignment 24 hours before departure. The restart follows the Venezuelan government’s gradual relaxation of COVID-era capacity caps and the resolution of currency-repatriation issues that had hampered European carriers. For corporate mobility planners the return of Iberia offers a non-stop alternative to multi-stop routings via Bogotá, Lisbon or Istanbul, reducing total journey time by up to six hours and lowering missed-connection risk.

Before tickets are issued, companies may also need to secure fresh entry permits for staff. VisaHQ’s platform (https://www.visahq.com/spain/) simplifies visa processing for Spain, Venezuela and dozens of onward destinations, providing real-time tracking and document-collection services that can save travel managers valuable time when deploying personnel on short notice.

Employers should, however, monitor load factors; initial seat availability is limited and premium-cabin demand from energy companies is expected to be strong. Travel-policy teams should also revisit duty-of-care assessments: Caracas’s Simón Bolívar Airport remains subject to U.S. FAA Category 2 oversight and periodic security advisories. Booking employees on through-tickets with protected connections and verified ground-transport vendors remains best practice. Iberia has not yet updated its own channels, but listings in global distribution systems suggest the schedule is firm. Should load factors hold, the carrier is expected to restore daily service by Q3 2026, further strengthening Madrid’s role as the principal Europe-Latin America hub.
