Brazil Opens 30-Day Visa-Free Entry to Eight New Markets
Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on 26 February 2026 that ordinary-passport holders from China, Denmark, France, Hungary, Ireland, Jamaica, Saint Lucia and the Bahamas may now enter Brazil without a visa for stays of up to 30 days, extendable to 90 days within any 12-month period. The measure, which took effect on 24 February, is part of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s broader effort to rebuild tourism arrivals and diversify inbound demand beyond Brazil’s traditional South-American and European feeder markets.

The move is highly reciprocal. China waived visas for Brazilians in mid-2025, and Denmark, France, Hungary and Ireland all belong to the EU block that already grants 90-day visa-free stays to Brazilians within Schengen. By extending the courtesy, Brasília eliminates a final irritant in bilateral relations and simplifies short-term corporate travel for suppliers, investors and project teams moving between the markets.

Caribbean partners Jamaica, Saint Lucia and the Bahamas have long lobbied for easier access in support of direct air and cruise links; their inclusion hints at a region-wide tourism diplomacy strategy ahead of the 2027 Pan-American Games in Barranquilla, where Brazil expects a record outbound contingent.

Practically, travellers must still complete Brazil’s digital pre-arrival health form (DSV) and show proof of onward travel, but they can bypass the e-Visa platform and consular appointments that previously added 10–15 days to trip planning.

For an at-a-glance check of these requirements—and to arrange any remaining paperwork such as longer-stay permits or technical work visas—travellers can turn to VisaHQ’s Brazil resource hub (https://www.visahq.com/brazil/). The service aggregates the latest government updates, generates personalised document checklists and offers courier support where physical submissions are still needed, giving corporate mobility teams a single interface for both visa-exempt and visa-required nationalities.

Airlines are already reacting: Azul plans to up-gauge its Campinas–Lisbon service to an A330-900 in April to capture connecting traffic from the new European markets, while China Southern is evaluating a second weekly Guangzhou–São Paulo flight for the third quarter.

For mobility managers, the headline benefit is speed. Executives from the eight countries can now accept short-notice meeting requests, join site inspections or provide after-sales support in Brazil with little more than a valid passport and a return ticket.

Employers should still verify that cumulative days in Brazil do not exceed 90 per 12-month cycle and remind staff that remunerated activities remain restricted under tourist status—work permits are still required for hands-on technical assignments.

Multinationals should also update their global travel approval systems and traveller-facing FAQ pages to reflect the new waiver and avoid unnecessary e-Visa costs.

From a policy perspective, the expansion signals that Lula’s government prefers targeted reciprocity over blanket liberalisation. The much-debated re-imposition of visas for U.S., Canadian and Australian citizens in 2025 demonstrated Brazil’s willingness to leverage entry rules for diplomatic goals, yet today’s announcement shows equal readiness to reward partners that extend Brazilian citizens the same courtesy. Analysts expect further small batches of waivers tied to aviation agreements and trade talks rather than a single sweeping reform.
