Italy Activates Health Surveillance on KLM Flight Passengers After Hantavirus Cruise Outbreak
Italy’s Health Ministry has placed four people under active monitoring after they flew into Rome on a KLM service linked to a deadly hantavirus outbreak on the cruise ship MV Hondius. While WHO and ECDC rate the risk as very low, the case shows that Italy can still revive border-health protocols, including passenger tracing and home quarantine. Mobility teams should ensure travellers retain contactable details and boarding passes, as health checks could tighten quickly if secondary cases appear.
