BLS International opens Cyprus visa centres in four Asian markets
Visa outsourcing specialist BLS International on 28 April inaugurated Cyprus Visa Application Centres (VACs) in Beijing, Phnom Penh, Ulaanbaatar and Vientiane, bringing to eight the number of Asian locations launched since January. The new facilities handle short-stay Schengen-type visas for tourism, business, family visits and sports events, and can accept walk-in applications as well as appointments—a flexibility welcomed by time-pressed corporate travellers.

For travelers who prefer an online, self-managed route, VisaHQ offers a streamlined Cyprus visa application service complete with digital checklists, real-time status updates, and optional courier pickup. The portal (https://www.visahq.com/cyprus/) can be especially handy for applicants living far from a new VAC, ensuring they still access clear guidance and efficient processing without an in-person visit.

The expansion reflects rising interest in Cyprus among Asian investors and outbound MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) groups. Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency figures show that FDI enquiries from China and Cambodia doubled in Q1 2026, while Mongolian LNG-trade delegations have visited Limassol twice this year. Faster local visa issuance removes a logistical bottleneck, allowing organisers to confirm travel programs within 10–12 working days instead of the 20-day average when applications were routed through third-country consulates. Each VAC offers optional premium services—document printing, courier return, SMS status alerts, a “Prime-Time” submission window and premium-lounge biometrics capture—mirroring the high-touch model BLS uses for its India and UAE contracts. Applicants still undergo security vetting by Cyprus’s Migration Department; BLS merely collects and forwards files, meaning decision-making remains squarely with Cypriot authorities. For mobility managers the immediate gains are predictability and cost. Previously, teams in Beijing often couriered passports to Manila or Kuala Lumpur, incurring extra risk and at least two nights of additional hotel stays for travellers. With local processing, total visa-acquisition budgets could fall by 25 - 30 %. The centres also create a data trail that corporates can integrate into travel-compliance dashboards, easing audit documentation under EU Posted-Worker and A1 rules. Cyprus’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has hinted that further VACs are planned for Bangkok and Jakarta later this year, aiming to position the island as a convenient EU entry point for Asian SMEs looking at Mediterranean logistics, fintech and energy projects.
