Poland becomes first EU state to complete Entry/Exit System rollout
Poland has switched on the EU’s new Entry/Exit System (EES) at all 71 of its road, rail, sea and air border-crossing points, capping a 20-month race to catch up with – and ultimately overtake – most other Schengen members. The digital register logs the personal and biometric data of every third-country national who enters or leaves the Schengen area, automatically calculating permitted length of stay and flagging over-stayers in real time.

At a press briefing at Warsaw-Chopin Airport, Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński hailed the project as “a landmark moment for the security of Poland and the European Union”. According to deputy minister Tomasz Szymański, more than 6,500 people have already been refused entry at Polish borders since the first pilots went live last autumn – including a Georgian traveller caught using a false identity and a Moldovan citizen flagged with an entry ban issued by another member state.

The upgrade matters for business mobility. For non-EU travellers the manual passport stamp is gone; instead, facial image and four fingerprints are captured on first entry and verified at every crossing. The change should shorten queues once travellers are enrolled, but companies are being advised to brief staff about longer first-time processing and to factor biometric enrolment into travel schedules.

If your organisation needs help aligning travel plans with Poland’s new EES rules, VisaHQ can simplify the process. The company’s platform offers up-to-date guidance on Polish entry requirements, assistance with supporting documents and hands-on help with visa and passport formalities—see https://www.visahq.com/poland/ for details.

Poland’s full deployment means carriers and global mobility teams can expect consistent procedures whether flying into Warsaw, driving through the German border at Świecko or arriving by rail from Ukraine. Airlines operating crew-member facilitation agreements have until May to update manifests to the new data-exchange format. Looking ahead, Polish officials confirmed that EES will be paired with the upgraded Eurodac asylum database in 2027, creating a fully biometric perimeter. Multinational employers with posted workers in Poland are urged to audit stay-count systems now, as automatic over-stay alerts will generate fines and potential multi-year Schengen bans.
