Emirates adjusts flights to 100+ cities as Gulf airspace restrictions persist
Emirates has issued its largest network bulletin since February’s regional conflict began, confirming that schedules have been thinned, retimed or rerouted on more than 100 city-pairs touching six continents. The carrier says the changes are a direct response to partial air-space closures over Iran and Iraq, which force longer routings and reduce the number of daily rotations each aircraft can fly. Seat capacity is being redeployed to trunk routes such as London, Sydney and Mumbai, while secondary points—including parts of Eastern Europe and North Africa—see temporary frequency cuts.

Travellers caught up in these schedule changes should also verify their visa requirements ahead of any rebooking. For business travellers the immediate impact is a spike in connection times through Dubai International (DXB) and reduced seat availability on popular morning departures. Emirates has re-opened free date-change and refund options for tickets issued on or before 31 March with travel up to 31 May, a policy last used during the 2020 pandemic. Travel-management companies are warning corporate clients to leave at least six hours for onward connections until routings stabilise. Cargo flows are also affected. Emirates SkyCargo is prioritising high-yield electronics and pharma shipments, while lower-priority fashion consignments are being pushed to belly-hold partners such as Turkish Airlines and Qatar Airways. Logistics analysts estimate a 12-15 % capacity squeeze across DXB in April, with rate increases already visible on the Hong Kong-Dubai lane. Emirates is advising passengers to check flight status 48 hours before travel and not to proceed to the airport without a re-confirmed booking. The airline says further adjustments are possible if the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) extends its conflict-zone advisory on 10 April. Industry observers expect rolling timetable changes to continue well into the northern-summer season.
