UAE airlines publish fresh re-booking waivers as British Airways keeps Dubai and Abu Dhabi services grounded
Airlines operating in and out of the United Arab Emirates released updated passenger guidance early on 9 April after a partial reopening of regional airspace allowed a cautious ramp-up of flights. Dubai International Airport (DXB) said it is now sequencing departures in waves and prioritising wide-body long-haul services so that aircraft and crews stranded overseas can be repositioned. Passengers have been told not to come to the airport unless their airline has issued a same-day confirmed departure time. Airlines continue to warn that publicly available timetables may lag behind last-minute operational changes caused by extended routings around closed air-space corridors. Emirates is still on a reduced schedule but has expanded its waiver window. Customers booked to depart up to 30 April may change dates or switch to another destination in the same region for travel on or before 15 June without fees or fare differences. Refunds are available for tickets issued before 28 February whose original travel dates fall between 28 February and 30 April.

For travelers whose plans now involve unexpected layovers or a switch to a neighbouring hub, it’s worth remembering that visas may need to be amended just as quickly as flight tickets. VisaHQ’s UAE portal (https://www.visahq.com/united-arab-emirates/) can turn around electronic tourist and business visas in a matter of hours, provide live status updates, and advise on the documentation required for multi-country itineraries, helping passengers avoid additional disruption.

Flydubai is keeping a trimmed network in place and cautions that block-times remain longer than usual because of detours. Etihad’s help-centre now lists free changes for tickets issued on or before 28 February with original travel dates up to 15 April, again allowing re-booking through 15 June. British Airways, by contrast, has not yet resumed services. The carrier’s travel-alert page continues to show all London–Dubai flights cancelled until later in April and London–Abu Dhabi flights pulled for the rest of the summer season. Industry analysts say BA’s wide-body fleet is fully committed and that longer routings would compromise utilisation targets unless more Gulf airspace re-opens. Travel-management companies with corporate clients in the UAE recommend that travellers build an additional five-to-seven-hour buffer into point-to-point itineraries throughout April and keep meetings flexible. They also advise programme managers to update traveller-tracking tools daily, because risk-ratings for individual routings can change with little notice. The latest flight waivers remove most change-fees but do not cover onward hotel or meeting-cancellation costs, leaving companies to pick up ancillary expenses.
