Easter rush: Dublin Airport expects 450,000 passengers over four-day weekend
Dublin Airport is bracing for one of its busiest holiday periods of the year, with management forecasting almost half a million passengers between Good Friday (3 April) and Easter Monday (6 April). Airport operator daa says 220,000 travellers will depart while around 230,000 will arrive, with Sunday tipped as the heaviest outbound day and Good Friday the peak for inbound traffic.

Easter rush: Dublin Airport expects 450,000 passengers over four-day weekend

To streamline the documentation side of any Easter getaway, VisaHQ offers an easy online portal where passengers can verify visa requirements, submit digital applications and track real-time status updates for travel to Ireland and more than 200 other destinations. Its Ireland hub (https://www.visahq.com/ireland/) is especially useful for those arranging last-minute ESTA renewals or Schengen visas, taking much of the admin burden off busy corporate road warriors.

The Easter surge is a litmus test for staffing levels put in place after last year’s summer bottlenecks. The airport now fields more than 800 security officers—up 15 % on 2024—and has reopened all 30 security lanes across Terminals 1 and 2. Self-service bag-drop usage has also climbed to 65 % of all economy-class check-ins, helping to keep security queue times within the target 20-minute window. For corporate travel managers the message is clear: brief staff to arrive at least two hours before European flights and three hours before long-haul services. daa notes that US-bound passengers must still clear pre-clearance formalities and reminds travellers that ESTA approvals should be secured at least 72 hours before departure. The Easter peak coincides with the end of many schools’ spring breaks and the start of summer schedule frequency increases on key business routes such as Dublin–London, Dublin–Paris and Dublin–Amsterdam. Airlines have added more than 40 extra rotations compared with the same weekend last year, with Aer Lingus alone operating 520 flights. While daa is confident of smooth operations, contingency measures—including overflow parking and additional immigration booths for late-evening arrivals—are in place should weather disruptions or aircraft delays trigger knock-on congestion. Travellers are advised to use the Dublin Airport app for real-time security-queue and parking updates.
