GOL unveils INSIGNIA business class and new long-haul routes from Rio, raising Brazil’s global connectivity
Brazilian carrier GOL Linhas Aéreas used the close of the first quarter to reveal the most ambitious international expansion in its 23-year history. In a briefing published on 30 March 2026, the airline confirmed that three non-stop intercontinental services will debut in the second half of the year: New York–Rio de Janeiro on 9 July, Lisbon–Rio in early September, and Paris–Rio later that month.

GOL unveils INSIGNIA business class and new long-haul routes from Rio, raising Brazil’s global connectivity

Whether you’re sending executives to the BRICS summit or jetting off for leisure on one of these new routes, VisaHQ can simplify the paperwork: its digital platform lets travelers and corporate travel teams secure Brazilian visas entirely online, offers concierge document reviews, and provides real-time status updates—discover the service at https://www.visahq.com/brazil/

All three markets were previously served only through alliances, forcing corporate travellers to make time-consuming connections in São Paulo or Europe. To compete head-to-head with legacy carriers, GOL is rolling out “INSIGNIA by GOL” – a true long-haul business-class cabin with 1-2-1 lie-flat seating, upgraded catering curated by Brazilian chef Helena Rizzo, and fast satellite Wi-Fi. The soft-product refresh extends to an exclusive INSIGNIA lounge at Rio-Galeão and priority ground handling aimed squarely at premium and expatriate travellers who had largely abandoned GOL for LATAM or foreign airlines on trans-Atlantic routes. Frequent flyers will also see the launch of a fifth elite tier, Smiles Magno, which sits above the existing Diamante level. Magno status comes with guaranteed upgrade space on domestic flights within 24 hours of departure, waiver of service fees for award changes, and a 100 percent mileage bonus. Corporate travel managers welcomed the move, noting that many multinationals with operations in Rio had struggled to secure consistent premium inventory since Azul wound down its Paris flight in 2025. From a macro perspective, the new routes are timed to capture surging inbound demand ahead of the November 2026 BRICS leaders’ summit in Rio and the build-up to Copa 2027 qualifiers. Aviation analysts at CAPA estimate that GOL’s additional 1,500 weekly long-haul seats will lift Rio’s share of Brazil–Europe traffic from 18 percent to 25 percent by year-end, easing chronic slot pressure at São Paulo-Guarulhos and diversifying entry points for expatriate assignments. For mobility professionals, the developments translate into shorter door-to-door itineraries for staff based in the U.S. Northeast and Western Europe, new through-check options under GOL’s Codeshare Plus agreements, and improved upgrade inventory that can reduce travel-policy leakage. Companies should review their preferred-carrier deals quickly: INSIGNIA fares are already loaded in the GDS and are pricing about 12 percent below LATAM’s business cabin on comparable dates.
