LOT extends suspension of Riyadh and Tel Aviv routes as regional security deteriorates
Just hours after completing its latest evacuation rotations, LOT Polish Airlines announced on Sunday afternoon that it is cancelling further services to Saudi Arabia and Israel. Flights to Riyadh are now grounded through at least 8 March, while the Tel Aviv suspension has been pushed back to 18 March. The carrier had already halted Dubai operations until 11 March.

LOT’s decision follows updated guidance from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), which warns European operators to avoid Iranian-controlled airspace below 32,000 feet and to remain ready for short-notice reroutes across the Gulf. Infrastructure Minister Dariusz Klimczak told state broadcaster TVP World that the airline “will not compromise on safety, even if that disrupts commercial plans.”

In light of these shifting itineraries, travellers may also need to revisit their visa paperwork at short notice. VisaHQ’s Warsaw portal (https://www.visahq.com/poland/) streamlines emergency applications and renewals for destinations across the Middle East and beyond, offering courier pickup, real-time status tracking and dedicated support that can save mobility teams valuable time.

Passengers holding tickets on the affected routes may rebook or seek refunds, but corporate travel managers are advised to check the fine print: fare differences will be waived only once per itinerary, and hotel compensation is limited to EUR 150 per night under LOT’s standard Conditions of Carriage. Beyond the headline destinations, the cancellations ripple through the network because LOT normally uses the same Dreamliner sub-fleet for rotations to Seoul and Delhi; contingency schedules may therefore tighten seat availability on those business-critical routes.

Companies with ongoing projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or Israel should explore alternative routings via Istanbul, Athens or Larnaca, where connections into Warsaw are still operating. Mobility teams should also remind travellers that Polish consulates in both Riyadh and Tel Aviv remain open but may scale back in-person appointments if the security picture worsens.

Industry analysts note that LOT’s swift cancellations are a bellwether for other EU carriers with smaller risk-management departments: if Warsaw’s flag-carrier cannot insure the route, regional and holiday airlines may follow suit, further shrinking capacity and pushing up fares once airspace is deemed safe again.
