Azul Launches Confins–Montevideo Flights, Expanding Brazil–Uruguay Connectivity
Azul Linhas Aéreas inaugurated a twice-weekly service linking Confins/Belo Horizonte and Montevideo on 5 March 2026, adding another international spoke to the airline’s fast-growing Minas Gerais hub. Flight AD operates Wednesdays and Sundays with 136-seat Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, departing Brazil at 10:15 and returning from Uruguay at 15:40.

The route responds to a surge in bilateral travel: Uruguay ranked fifth among source markets for Brazil in 2025, and Minas Gerais authorities have pushed for a direct link to boost trade in agriculture, mining technology and wine. At the ribbon-cutting, executives from Invest Minas and the Uruguayan tourism secretariat highlighted the three-hour flight’s potential to funnel visitors beyond Rio and São Paulo and to position Belo Horizonte as a secondary gateway for Mercosur travellers.

Before locking in tickets, passengers should also verify entry formalities. VisaHQ’s Brazil portal (https://www.visahq.com/brazil/) offers a quick way to confirm whether you need a visa, complete e-visa applications, renew passports or translate supporting documents. Its specialists can handle Brazil-bound and Uruguay-bound paperwork alike, smoothing the path for business delegations and weekenders connecting through Belo Horizonte to the wider Mercosur region.

For corporates, the new connection trims at least three hours off itineraries that previously required a change in São Paulo, cutting hotel spend and reducing missed-connection risk. Travellers can also connect onward via Azul’s domestic network of 110 daily flights from Confins to cities such as Recife, Manaus and Brasília.

Azul hinted that Confins could become its preferred departure point for southern-cone expansion, citing Argentina and Chile as next targets once E2 fleet deliveries stabilise in Q4 2026. The move follows Brazilian government incentives that discount navigation fees for carriers opening international routes outside the congested southeast triangle.

Seat inventory is already loaded in global distribution systems, and the carrier is offering introductory round-trip fares from R$1,299—all in—aimed at stimulating weekend leisure traffic while corporate contracts are renegotiated.
