LATAM becomes first Latin-American carrier to earn Skytrax 4-Star rating
Skytrax confirmed in Santiago on 5 March 2026 that LATAM Airlines Group has been upgraded from three to four stars in its World Airline Star Rating audit, making it the only airline in Latin America currently holding the 4-Star badge. The independent audit praised end-to-end passenger experience improvements, from revamped digital check-in flows and refurbished lounges to the new South-America-inspired Premium Business cabin with full-flat seats and 18-inch HD screens. In-flight connectivity and the roll-out of LATAM Play streaming across the narrow-body fleet were singled out as game-changers for business travellers accustomed to US and Asian benchmarks.

Before travellers can enjoy LATAM’s enhanced onboard product, many will first need to secure the right travel documents. The group has invested roughly US$ 520 million since 2023 in cabin and IT upgrades, plus a further US$ 100 million to retrofit Wi-Fi on all long-haul aircraft by 2027. For global-mobility teams the rating offers a quality assurance marker when negotiating LATAM-centric corporate deals, especially on multi-segment itineraries that combine domestic Brazilian legs with intercontinental sectors. The award also puts competitive pressure on Azul and GOL, both of which are accelerating cabin-refresh programmes ahead of new aircraft deliveries. Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted noted that a fifth star is “attainable” if LATAM sustains on-time performance and completes its Wi-Fi retrofit. Mobility managers should nonetheless monitor actual punctuality data, as slot congestion at key Brazilian airports remains a systemic risk.
