Eurowings to Join Lufthansa Group Airlines in Munich’s Terminal 2, Simplifying Connections
Low-cost carrier Eurowings confirmed on 3 March 2026 that all its Munich operations will switch from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 on 25 March. The announcement means that, for the first time, every Lufthansa Group airline serving Munich—Lufthansa, Austrian, Swiss, Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines and now Eurowings—will operate under one roof. For frequent flyers and assignees transiting through Germany’s second-largest hub, the change eliminates the 20-minute airside bus or security re-screen that had been required when connecting between Eurowings and Lufthansa mainline or Star Alliance partners. Self-service kiosks and biometric bag-drop counters at T2’s southern zone (Exit E04) will handle Eurowings check-ins, and through-ticketed passengers will benefit from integrated re-booking in case of disruption because all carriers now share the same departure control system. The move is particularly significant for mobility managers who rely on Eurowings’ dense domestic network—32 German routes—that feeds long-haul assignment traffic out of Munich. According to OAG schedule data, 27 % of Eurowings passengers at MUC are connecting onward, a figure expected to rise above 40 % once the carrier is co-located with its sister airlines. Lufthansa Group says the consolidation will cut minimum connection times on certain itineraries from 40 to 30 minutes, opening new same-day options to Delhi, Chicago and Cape Town. Airport operator FMG has spent €17 million on apron modifications and signage to accommodate the shift.

For international assignees heading to or transiting through Germany as part of these newly streamlined connections, VisaHQ can simplify the visa and travel document process. Through its dedicated Germany portal (https://www.visahq.com/germany/), the platform offers quick eligibility checks, digital applications and real-time status tracking, allowing HR teams and frequent travellers to focus on itinerary changes rather than paperwork.

While no immediate lounge access changes were announced, Eurowings BIZclass customers will now be eligible for the T2 Business Lounge instead of the more distant Terminal 1 facility. Travellers booked for flights departing on or after 25 March are advised to re-check parking and train arrival recommendations, as S-Bahn exits differ between the terminals. From a policy standpoint, the co-location further strengthens Munich’s bid to become Germany’s primary transfer hub once the third runway—currently slated for 2028—comes online. Companies with mobility programmes should update travel policies, duty-of-care mapping and preferred-routing algorithms to reflect the shorter, intra-terminal connections.
