Armenia opens its doors: Visa-free entry for UAE nationals until 1 July 2026
In a surprise move aimed at jump-starting post-COVID tourism, Armenia has waived visa requirements for citizens of 113 countries— including the United Arab Emirates— for the first half of 2026. The decree, published in Yerevan on 26 February 2026, allows eligible visitors to stay up to 180 days within a 12-month period without applying for any prior permit. The policy covers most of the Gulf, the EU, the United States, Canada and several Asia-Pacific nations. Armenian officials said the temporary opening will be reviewed mid-year but could be extended if arrival numbers meet targets. Tourism generates about 11 percent of Armenia’s GDP but has struggled to recover fully; the country welcomed 1.4 million visitors in 2025, still 15 percent below its pre-pandemic peak. For UAE residents— many of whom seek cooler summer climates, historical sites and outdoor adventure— the waiver removes the need for the e-visa that previously cost US$7 and required at least three working days to process. Travel agents in Dubai are already bundling long-weekend packages to Yerevan and Lake Sevan, highlighting the new 180-day allowance as ideal for digital nomads and remote workers holding UAE residence who want a change of scene without paperwork.

For travelers who still need tailored advice— or who plan onward journeys to destinations where visas remain compulsory— VisaHQ’s UAE portal (https://www.visahq.com/united-arab-emirates/) offers real-time entry guidance, application support and document courier options, making it easy to secure any required paperwork while planning an Armenian getaway.

Business chambers in both countries also expect the measure to facilitate trade missions. The UAE is Armenia’s seventh-largest foreign investor, with interests in renewable energy, real estate and hospitality. “Scrapping visas—even temporarily— sends a strong signal that Armenia is serious about attracting Gulf capital,” said Aram Harutyunyan, chair of the Armenian Business Council Dubai. Travellers are reminded that although entry is visa-free, passports must be valid for at least six months and proof of health insurance is recommended. The UAE Embassy in Yerevan advises Emiratis to register their trip on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Twajudi system for consular support. If the experiment boosts arrivals without straining border resources, tourism officials hint that full liberalisation could become permanent.
