GCC to Roll Out Schengen-Style Unified Tourist Visa in 2026

GCC to Roll Out Schengen-Style Unified Tourist Visa in 2026
Tourism ministers from the six Gulf Cooperation Council states have agreed on the framework for a single-entry, digital-only visitor visa—dubbed the "GCC Unified Visa"—set for phased launch later this year. Once operational, travellers will apply through a central online portal and can circulate freely for up to 30 days across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman without additional border formalities.

Officials say the scheme mirrors Europe’s Schengen Area and aims to increase multi-destination itineraries, length of stay and average spend. For the UAE, already the region’s busiest hub, the move could divert more stop-over traffic into Dubai and Abu Dhabi as gateways to onward Gulf circuits. Airlines and hotel groups are preparing joint packages that combine Emirati city breaks with Saudi heritage sites or Omani eco-resorts.

Until the unified system is fully operational, travelers may still need individual permits for each destination. Visa specialists such as VisaHQ can streamline that interim process—offering online applications for UAE visas and real-time updates as GCC-wide requirements evolve. Corporate mobility teams will benefit, too. Project engineers and consultants often hop between GCC capitals; a single visa eliminates repeated embassy appointments and accelerates deployment. The visa will carry a yet-to-be-disclosed fee and require proof of onward tickets and accommodation. Security screening data will feed into a shared biometric system managed by interior ministries.

Travel managers should update policy frameworks to reflect new eligibility rules and ensure insurance coverage extends to all six states. Early adopters are expected to include MICE groups scheduling multi-city roadshows and leisure travellers extending Expo City Dubai visits into neighbouring markets.
VisaHQ's expert visas and immigration team helps individuals and companies navigate global travel, work, and residency requirements. We handle document preparation, application filings, government agencies coordination, every aspect necessary to ensure fast, compliant, and stress-free approvals.
