Pune set to join India’s Fast-Track Immigration network, promises shorter queues for flyers
International passengers using Pune’s rapidly growing airport may soon breeze through border control thanks to the Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP). Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol told reporters on 7 February that he will formally request the Ministry of Home Affairs to install e-gates and biometric kiosks at the terminal.

FTI-TTP, launched in 2024 and already live at 13 airports, allows pre-verified Indian citizens and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) to clear immigration in under a minute. Pune handled 338,770 international passengers in 2025 – a 65 percent jump year-on-year – but still relies on a handful of manned counters, causing frequent bottlenecks.

Business travellers on the Pune–Dubai and Pune–Bangkok routes have welcomed the plan, noting that delays often eat into connection windows at onward hubs. The airport, squeezed for apron space with only ten parking bays, also faces turnaround constraints because aircraft cannot taxi until passengers have cleared immigration.

While FTI-TTP tackles the queue at the border, travellers often still need to secure visas for their onward destinations. VisaHQ’s online platform (https://www.visahq.com/india/) streamlines that process, offering Indian passport holders and OCIs quick eligibility checks, digital document submission and real-time application tracking—so the whole journey, from visa to immigration, can now move at the same fast-track pace.

Under the programme, applicants register on the ftittp.mha.gov.in portal and submit biometrics at an FRRO or participating airport. Once approved, they can use dedicated e-gates for both arrivals and departures; passports are stamped electronically.

If sanctioned, Pune would become the 14th Indian airport with FTI-TTP, reinforcing the government’s goal of covering 31 gateways by 2027 and aligning India with global trusted-traveller schemes like Global Entry and EES.
