Delhi Airport launches ‘Family@DEL’ priority lanes and services across all terminals

Delhi Airport launches ‘Family@DEL’ priority lanes and services across all terminals
From 5 February, families departing on domestic flights from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport can use a dedicated end-to-end channel called ‘Family@DEL’. Operated by Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), the programme offers separate kerbside entry gates, exclusive family check-in counters, priority security lanes and buggy transfers to the gate at Terminals 1, 2 and 3.

The package includes complimentary baby strollers, PRM-friendly washrooms, private nursing rooms and seating zones in food courts with child-friendly menus. Specially trained ‘Family Assistance Buddies’ have been positioned throughout the process flow to escort passengers travelling with infants, elderly relatives or those with reduced mobility.

Although the initiative is domestic-only at launch, DIAL told reporters that an international-departure roll-out is under evaluation once additional space is created at immigration. For mobility professionals, the move matters because India’s domestic legs are an integral part of end-to-end international routings; smoother connections reduce missed-flight risk and traveller stress, particularly for dual-sector trips such as Bengaluru–Delhi–Frankfurt.

For families who will connect in Delhi before continuing overseas, visa formalities can be just as critical as airport logistics. VisaHQ’s streamlined online service (https://www.visahq.com/india/) helps travellers secure India entry permits and onward visas for hundreds of destinations, offering document checks, real-time status updates and corporate reporting tools—an ideal complement to the hassle-free Family@DEL corridor.

GMR Airports, which manages the hub, says the project aligns with its ‘Passenger First 2030’ roadmap and follows global best practice at Changi and Heathrow. Early adopters—Air India and IndiGo—have already integrated Family@DEL signage into their mobile-app way-finding. Travel managers should update corporate travel policies to advise assignees with dependants about the dedicated lanes and to build slightly shorter minimum-connect times in Delhi.
