Airlines seek extra UAE slots as $5 billion Wynn Al Marjan casino-resort nears 2027 launch

Airlines seek extra UAE slots as $5 billion Wynn Al Marjan casino-resort nears 2027 launch
With the signature tower of Wynn Resorts’ US$ 5 billion integrated casino now structurally complete on Ras Al Khaimah’s Al Marjan Island, six international airlines—Emirates, Air India, British Airways, Qatar Airways, Lufthansa and Air France—have formally applied for additional frequencies or new routes into the UAE. Industry sources told Travel and Tour World on 3 February that carriers expect an “unprecedented spike” in premium leisure demand once the 1,530-room resort opens in spring 2027.

Emirates has requested double-daily Dubai–Ras Al Khaimah shuttle flights using 777-200LRs, while Qatar Airways plans to up-gauge its Doha service to A321neos fitted with lie-flat seats. European network carriers are eyeing fifth-freedom tags that would let them operate London-Dubai-RAK sectors, giving visitors direct access to the new gaming enclave without surface transfers.

The scramble for slots underscores the Wynn project’s expected pull on high-spending travellers—and the wider policy shift by Ras Al Khaimah authorities, who in 2022 established a dedicated gaming regulator and bespoke tourism visas. Mobility-wise, the influx will create fresh opportunities for UAE-based hospitality groups to rotate staff between Dubai, Abu Dhabi and RAK, but will also strain housing and schooling capacity in the northern emirate.

For travellers, investors and HR managers trying to stay ahead of the paperwork curve, VisaHQ’s UAE hub (https://www.visahq.com/united-arab-emirates/) offers a one-stop service for securing the bespoke Ras Al Khaimah tourism visas already in play and tracking future options such as the planned GCC Grand Tours visa. The platform simplifies applications, monitors regulatory updates and helps companies line up documentation for conference delegates, VIP gamblers or relocating staff long before the casino doors open.

Corporate travel managers with regional conference portfolios are already pencilling Al Marjan into 2027 incentive calendars, citing the resort’s 15,000 m² of meeting space and seaplane-transfer possibilities from Dubai. Meanwhile, GCC immigration officials say the project accelerates the case for the single “GCC Grand Tours” visa due in late 2026, which would let tourists move seamlessly between the UAE’s multiple destinations and neighbouring Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman.
