Emirates axes multiple Dubai–US flights as Winter Storm Fern grips North America

Emirates axes multiple Dubai–US flights as Winter Storm Fern grips North America
Emirates has pre-emptively cancelled more than a dozen services between Dubai International Airport (DXB) and key U-S gateways from 24 to 26 January after Winter Storm Fern blanketed large swathes of the United States in snow, ice and high winds. Affected routes include New York (JFK/EWR), Washington D.C., Dallas–Fort Worth and Milan- and Athens-tagged flights that continue on to the United States.

The airline said passengers holding through-tickets who were due to connect in Dubai will not be accepted for travel at their point of origin, a rare step that underscores the severity and geographic spread of the storm. Customers booked directly with Emirates can rebook or request refunds, while those who purchased via travel agencies have been asked to contact their agent for alternatives.

Meanwhile, travellers who need to shift itineraries or secure new transit permissions because of these weather-related disruptions can quickly manage U.S. or third-country visa requirements through VisaHQ’s streamlined platform. The UAE portal (https://www.visahq.com/united-arab-emirates/) provides rapid processing and live support, letting corporate mobility teams stay compliant even when flight plans change at the last minute.

Winter Storm Fern has caused hundreds of cancellations across North America and forced airport closures at several major hubs. Mobility managers in the Gulf have been urged to double-check onward connections for executives heading to earnings calls, trade-show season and the post-holiday retail reset in the United States.

For UAE-based companies the disruption is a reminder of the importance of real-time travel risk management. Organisations with duty-of-care programmes in place can use Emirates’ waiver policy to reroute talent through unaffected hubs such as Chicago or Toronto, or to defer trips until the storm abates.

Looking ahead, Emirates said it is “closely monitoring the weather situation” and will reinstate services once operational and safety conditions permit. Business travellers are advised to keep contingency days in their itineraries and to verify the status of any code-share or interline segments that may be affected by rolling delays across the U-S network.
