Poland Deploys First Anti-Drone Tower on Belarus Border

Poland Deploys First Anti-Drone Tower on Belarus Border
Poland has switched on the first node of a five-site anti-drone network only 800 m from the Belarusian frontier, dramatically raising the technological bar in the two-year struggle to seal its eastern border. Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński and Prime Minister Donald Tusk inaugurated the 47-million-złoty tower in Ozierany on 23 December, confirming that four more clusters will be live by January.

The installation combines radar, electro-optical sensors and a short-range artillery module capable of neutralising small UAVs that have harassed Border Guard patrols and spooked commercial pilots since 2021. The move follows thousands of reported drone incursions linked to both smuggling and Belarus’s so-called “instrumentalised migration” tactics. More than 6,000 soldiers, police and border-guard officers will spend Christmas on duty in the buffer zone, highlighting Warsaw’s security priorities.

For mobility managers the message is clear: expect tighter airspace controls and possible flight-path deviations near the Belarus border. Regional airports such as Białystok-Krywlany are likely to see ad-hoc restrictions, and road checkpoints may experience sporadic closures while heavy equipment is moved into position.

If stricter controls leave your staff needing updated paperwork, VisaHQ can help. The service’s Poland portal (https://www.visahq.com/poland/) offers real-time guidance on visas, travel authorizations and supporting documents, streamlining compliance for companies moving personnel through increasingly regulated border zones.

Companies operating logistics routes through the region should build extra transit time into supply-chain schedules and brief drivers on new ID-check routines. Foreign assignees based in Podlaskie voivodeship should carry passports at all times and keep abreast of temporary no-fly or no-drive notices issued via the Government Security Centre (RCB) app.

Longer term, the anti-drone shield forms part of a 2.5-billion-złoty, multi-year border-security upgrade that includes electronic surveillance, a second physical barrier and expanded rapid-reaction units. Employers can therefore expect a permanently more controlled environment along Poland’s eastern flank.
VisaHQ's expert visas and immigration team helps individuals and companies navigate global travel, work, and residency requirements. We handle document preparation, application filings, government agencies coordination, every aspect necessary to ensure fast, compliant, and stress-free approvals.
