Air India–Scoot Interline Pact Opens 70 New Asia-Pacific Cities to Indian Travellers

Air India–Scoot Interline Pact Opens 70 New Asia-Pacific Cities to Indian Travellers
Tata-owned Air India on 11 December inked a unilateral interline agreement with Singapore Airlines’ low-cost subsidiary Scoot, giving Air India customers single-ticket access to more than 70 destinations across Southeast Asia, North Asia and Australia via Singapore Changi. The deal lets passengers check baggage through to final destinations such as Osaka, Perth and Bali while earning Flying Returns miles on the AI leg.

Strategic context: The agreement is Air India’s latest step in rebuilding its global network after years of under-investment. It complements existing interlines with Lufthansa Group and United, and positions AI as a credible one-stop option against Gulf carriers that dominate India–Asia traffic.

Before mobility managers take advantage of these new routings, they may want to confirm that travelers have the correct entry permits for onward points in Southeast Asia, Australia and North Asia. VisaHQ’s India portal (https://www.visahq.com/india/) can streamline that process by offering real-time visa requirements, digital application services and corporate dashboards, ensuring employees get the right paperwork quickly while minimizing travel disruptions.

Benefits for mobility managers: 1) Short-notice itineraries to second-tier Asian cities become viable without separate tickets; 2) through-fares are up to 18 % cheaper than legacy interline combinations, according to preliminary GDS filings; 3) disruption handling will be centralised at Changi, reducing missed-connection risks.

Caveats: The pact is unilateral—Scoot does not yet place its code on domestic Indian legs—so reverse flows into India still require separate tickets. Travel buyers should also note Scoot’s strict cabin-baggage and ancillary-fee model when budgeting per-diem costs.
