Star Alliance partners EVA Air and LOT Polish Airlines have broadened their codeshare pact, effective early December, to include flights between Warsaw and Seoul operated by LOT and between Taipei and Seoul operated by EVA Air. The agreement, published on industry route portal AeroRoutes on 8 December, creates a seamless one-stop product for travellers between Poland and Taiwan.
Under the new arrangement LOT will place its “LO” code on EVA’s daily Taipei Taoyuan–Seoul Incheon service, while EVA will add its “BR” code to LOT’s five-weekly Warsaw–Seoul flights. Both carriers will synchronise timetables to minimise layovers to as little as 90 minutes in each direction.
The development is significant for Polish exporters in the semiconductor equipment and green-tech sectors who increasingly source components from Taiwanese suppliers. Until now passengers often routed via Frankfurt or Dubai, adding both time and cost. The codeshare also enhances onward connectivity: EVA’s network reaches 29 destinations in Asia-Pacific, while LOT offers 12 destinations in Central and Eastern Europe from Warsaw.
From a compliance perspective, mobility teams should review corporate travel policies to ensure that the new routing qualifies under ‘most-economical fare’ clauses, as initial fares filed in global distribution systems are roughly 7 % cheaper than comparable Lufthansa combinations. Travellers transiting in South Korea for under 24 hours continue to benefit from visa-free airside transfer rules.
