Salvador Airport Adds 14 % Capacity and Activates e-Channels for Mercosur ID Holders
Vinci Airports has unveiled its most ambitious high-season schedule at Salvador Bahia International (SSA) since taking over the concession in 2018. Between 15 December 2025 and 31 January 2026 the airport will offer 1.6 million seats, up 14 % on last year. International growth grabs the headlines: Copa Airlines will launch a four-weekly Panama City link on 17 December, Air France is upgrading Paris services to thrice-weekly wide-bodies, and Flybondi is increasing Argentinian capacity by 74 %.

To keep pace, the Federal Police have opened automated e-channels for Mercosur national-ID holders, shaving valuable minutes off regional arrivals. Staffing across immigration, customs and security has risen 20 %, while the Bahia state government is deploying extra military-police patrols on airport highways to deter seasonal petty crime.

Whether your travelers are Mercosur citizens breezing through the new e-channels or international staff making connections via Panama City or Paris, VisaHQ can streamline the paperwork. Its online portal (https://www.visahq.com/brazil/) guides passengers through Brazilian visa requirements, offers courier pickup and real-time tracking, and keeps corporate mobility teams compliant without the usual bureaucracy.

For mobility planners the extra capacity eases dependence on the São Paulo–Rio axis, allowing project crews to land closer to the north-eastern oil-and-gas fields, renewable-energy parks and emerging agritech clusters. However, fares remain volatile – GDS data already point to an 18 % year-on-year spike – so travel managers should block seats early and lock in hotel allotments.

Companies should also brief staff on Salvador’s summer operating quirks: extreme heat can trigger ad-hoc baggage-weight limits on regional turboprops, and thunderstorms regularly disrupt afternoon banks. Contingency planning and traveller communications are therefore critical to keep projects on schedule.
VisaHQ's expert visas and immigration team helps individuals and companies navigate global travel, work, and residency requirements. We handle document preparation, application filings, government agencies coordination, every aspect necessary to ensure fast, compliant, and stress-free approvals.
