DGCA probes IndiGo after 1,200-plus flight cancellations disrupt business travel
India’s aviation regulator has opened a formal investigation into IndiGo after the carrier reported 1,232 cancellations in November and continued large-scale disruptions on 2–3 December. Preliminary data show on-time performance plunging to 35 percent at peak hubs such as Delhi and Mumbai, with crew shortages, weather and ATC issues cited.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered the airline’s top executives to present mitigation plans within 48 hours. Potential penalties range from schedule curbs to monetary fines if regulatory breaches are proven. For corporate travel managers, the turmoil has triggered urgent rerouting and policy exceptions—especially for project teams commuting between Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune.

IndiGo, which operates over 2,200 daily flights, has apologised and promised network “re-balancing,” but industry analysts warn that strict new crew-duty-time rules and winter fog will keep pressure on schedules through January. The DGCA said it is also reviewing contingency obligations under India’s Civil Aviation Requirements, including meal and hotel compensation thresholds, to ensure passenger rights are protected.

Travel buyers are advised to monitor advisories and build extra buffer time into connections, particularly where IndiGo is the sole nonstop option.
