Holiday-weekend police blitz restricts cargo traffic on Mato Grosso highways

The Federal Highway Police (PRF) launched ‘Operation Labour Day 2025’ on 30 November, but the practical impact for mobility managers is unfolding this week as the long holiday weekend begins. A PRF bulletin on 2 December confirmed that enforcement teams will use breathalysers, mobile radar and cameras to curb drunk driving and speeding on BR-163 and other key corridors through 4 December.

Most relevant for supply-chain and assignment planners is a temporary ban on Special Transit Authorisation (AET/AE) cargo vehicles during peak travel windows: Wednesday 30 November from 16:00–22:00, Thursday 1 December (Labour Day) from 06:00–12:00, and Sunday 4 December from 16:00–22:00. The restriction applies to over-dimension and hazardous-materials loads that normally require a police escort.

Companies moving heavy equipment to agribusiness or construction sites should re-time convoys or shift them to night-time slots outside the prohibition. Passenger-car traffic is also expected to spike as city dwellers head to river resorts, increasing accident risk and journey times. HR departments with assignees driving rental cars on field projects should issue refresher briefings on defensive driving and local emergency numbers.

In addition to road checks, PRF is coordinating with state military police to stage sobriety checkpoints near festival venues. Foreign licence-holders should carry both their home-country permit and an International Driving Permit (IDP) to avoid fines.

The annual Labour Day operation is a reminder that Brazil’s public-holiday calendar often includes mobility-specific enforcement actions. Multinationals should integrate PRF restriction schedules into their travel-approval workflows and verify that logistics vendors do the same.
