Government launches ‘Aqui é Brasil’ operation to receive deported Brazilians from the United States

Government launches ‘Aqui é Brasil’ operation to receive deported Brazilians from the United States
The Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship (MDHC) confirmed on 25 November that a charter flight carrying Brazilian nationals deported from the United States will land at Belo Horizonte/Confins Airport at 19:45 on 26 November. The reception forms part of the inter-agency programme “Aqui é Brasil”, designed to give returnees immediate humanitarian assistance and long-term reintegration support.

Upon arrival, returnees will be met by teams from the MDHC, the Foreign Ministry, the ministries of Justice, Social Development and Health, the Federal Police and the International Organization for Migration. Services include medical screening, psychological counselling, meals, hygiene kits and subsidised onward travel to home states. Vulnerable cases—such as unaccompanied minors or victims of trafficking—are fast-tracked to specialised shelters.

The repatriation flights, financed by U.S. immigration authorities but coordinated locally by Brazil, have become more frequent in 2025 amid tougher U.S. border enforcement. According to government data, more than 3 200 Brazilians were returned in the first ten months of the year, up 28 % on 2024. Many had entered the U.S. irregularly via Mexico after paying smugglers fees of up to US$10 000.

For global-mobility teams, the programme underscores the reputational and compliance risks of informal expatriation channels. Companies are being urged to tighten duty-of-care protocols, ensure Latin-American assignees travel with correct visas and monitor third-party contractors who may facilitate irregular movement of seasonal staff.

The MDHC says it is working with state labour-inspection agencies to offer deportees job-placement assistance and vocational training, aiming to reduce the likelihood of re-migration. A legislative bill that would allow simplified recognition of skills acquired abroad is expected to reach Congress in early 2026.
