Brazil’s civil-aviation regulator ANAC issued a restriction on 22 November limiting Jaguaruna’s Humberto Ghizzo Bortoluzzi Airport (JJG) to 12 commercial flights per week until 28 March 2026. The cap is part of a broader compliance campaign covering seven regional airports that have yet to meet key elements of RBAC 139, the rulebook governing runway safety areas, lighting and approach aids.
Inspectors found that JJG’s runway shoulders and RESA overrun zones fall short of requirements for the Embraer E-Jet family most frequently used on the Florianópolis–Jaguaruna route. Airport administrators must also install Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) lights and widen the taxiway fillet to accommodate Code C aircraft.
For airlines, the slot reduction forces schedule reshuffles at a time when summer demand along Santa Catarina’s beach corridor is peaking. Azul confirmed it will consolidate two daily frequencies into a single larger aircraft, while GOL is studying a temporary diversion of passengers to nearby Criciúma coach transfers.
Global mobility planners with projects in the Port of Imbituba oil-and-gas cluster should anticipate tighter seat availability and consider early bookings or alternative routings via Florianópolis. ANAC stressed that once corrective works are certified, the flight limit will be lifted ahead of the 2026 southern-summer season.
