Brazilian travellers can reach Colonia by car via Uruguay’s well-maintained highways, by a one-hour flight from São Paulo to Montevideo followed by a 90-minute transfer, or—most popular—by ferry from Buenos Aires in just 50 minutes. The municipality has partnered with Buquebus and Seacat to offer discounted ferry-hotel packages aimed at Brazilian families.

Mobility planners should watch visa-exemption durations: Brazilians may stay up to 180 days per calendar year in Uruguay but must register with immigration if conducting remunerated activities. Colonia’s tourism board confirmed that cruise-ship calls will jump from 43 to 60 in the 2025-26 season, increasing weekend hotel compression.
