Visa Policy of The Kingdom of Oman
The visa policy of the Kingdom of Oman regulates the inflow and outflow of foreign nationals and those eligible for visas. This policy determines who can enter Oman and the type of visa they will need. It also clearly states the nationalities that are exempted from visas and those that are not exempted. Based on the Foreigners’ Residence Law of 1995, a visitor not eligible for an electronic visa must apply for a tourist visa or any other type of visa at the Omani embassy in their country.
Furthermore, the law specifies that a foreigner who chooses to stay beyond the number of days agreed under their visa or e-visa arrangement will have to apply for a residence permit while they are in the country, and the foreigner shall lose their rights to residency if they live outside Oman continuously for up to 6 months in a year or 18 months within three years.
Subsequently, the Omani Royal Police, empowered by law to issue visas and residency permits, announced a new online visa system in 2018 for visitors coming into Oman for a short time. This electronic visa is specially designed for tourism and other social engagement that will not exceed a few days or months, depending on their nationality. The e-visa is electronically linked to the visitor’s passport and allows them to enter Oman by land or air. Oman e visa is only for citizens of visa exempt countries not all nationals. If you are ineligible for Oman visa you should apply for a consular visa by visiting a foreign mission to submit a physical visa application
There are three types of e-visas, namely the Single-entry visa, multiple entry visa, and the GCC Resident Single-entry visa, and citizens from more than 220 countries qualify for this visa program. However, travelers from Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia do not require visas to enter Oman according to their visa policy if they have a residency visa issued by any of these countries. The agreement between all Gulf countries allows for free entry and exit for citizens and foreigners alike.
Countries On The Oman e Visa Eligibility
Only applicants who meet the following eligibility criteria will be issued an e visa
- They must be nationals of designated countries
- They must come hang passports issue by their home government which is valid for at least 6 months
- The duration of their stay must be short term not exceeding the legal timeframe
Key Information About The Oman
As you prepare for your trip to Oman there are vital details you should keep in mind and we review them below.
Respect the Local Laws: When you visit Oman it is in your best interest to respect the customary laws of the locals. Oman is a deeply religious society with strong cultural values which must be respected by visitors and citizens alike. Alcohol consumption is prohibited, and so is indecent dressing. To know more, do some research about the country ahead of your visit.
Applying For Extensions: The body responsible for approving extensions is the Royal Oman Police. If you decide for any reason that you need to stay longer than your visa permits, apply for an extension in advance. Do not wait until your visa expires before applying. The officer handling your case will ask questions about why you need more time and the number of extra days given will be at his discretion.
Your Visa Is Connected To Your Passport: Make sure you travel to Oman using the same passport you used for the application as it is Connected. If you travel with a different passport you will not be allowed into the country as the authorization will assume that you have no visa.
Visa For GCC Residents: If you are a resident of any of the GCC countries and you wish to apply for a GCC residency visa, make sure the resident permit issued by your host country is valid otherwise your application will be denied or you will be turned back at the entry port. Also note that if you are a legal resident in Oman you can use your Oman residence permit to visit other GCC countries as well.
Not For Work: Your Omani e visa is issued solely for tourism, business and tourism and you are not allowed to work during your time in the country. If you want to apply to work in Oman you will need a work visa issued by the Royal Oman Police. For work visa applications your employer will need to apply on your behalf by providing all your details to the authorities.
