Easter travel bookings hold up for Cypriots despite Middle-East turbulence
With Orthodox Easter falling on 12 April this year, Cypriot travel agencies say demand for outbound holidays has remained "moderate but satisfactory" even as regional conflict depresses inbound tourism. Speaking to Cyprus Mail on 10 April, Antonis Orthodoxou of the Association of Cyprus Travel Agents (ACTA) noted that reservations slowed when fighting in the Middle East escalated in late February, but volumes are still on par with 2025 levels. Greece dominates outbound traffic, accounting for roughly 90 percent of all bookings. Popular beach destinations such as Crete and the Cyclades remain the top sellers, helped by dense ferry and flight schedules and the absence of visa formalities. Cities like Paris—fuelled by family trips to Disneyland—and London, where many Cypriot students study, round out the top tier. More adventurous travellers are opting for short cultural breaks in Georgia and Armenia, two markets heavily promoted by regional LCCs this spring. From a pricing perspective, package costs are broadly flat year-on-year. A four-night Athens break still starts at about €399, while five-day Crete deals hover around €550 depending on hotel grade. Tour operators say airlines have refrained from steep surcharges despite higher fuel prices because load factors remain fragile.

For Cypriot residents planning journeys beyond the visa-free Schengen area—whether to the Caucasus, Asia or farther afield—VisaHQ offers an easy way to verify entry rules and submit applications online without trekking to embassies. The platform’s Cyprus portal (https://www.visahq.com/cyprus/) lists requirements for dozens of countries and can streamline paperwork for both leisure travellers and corporate travel managers juggling multi-country itineraries.

The data contrast with the inbound side: airport operator Hermes reported a 15.3 percent drop in March passenger traffic, mainly because European carriers trimmed capacity to Larnaca and Paphos after the Iranian drone attack on the RAF Akrotiri base. Hoteliers fear that if three key months are lost, overall tourist arrivals could slide by 8-10 percent this year. For corporate travel managers, the message is two-fold. First, seat availability for Easter week-end flights out of Cyprus is tighter than headline numbers suggest, making early booking essential. Second, firms hosting international meetings on the island should anticipate thinner flight options for delegates and consider combining Larnaca and Paphos routings to achieve workable itineraries.
