Easter Getaway: 13-Kilometre Traffic Jam at Gotthard Tunnel Prompts Travel Warnings
On 2 April, queues in front of the Gotthard tunnel reached up to 15 km, causing delays of more than two hours as Easter traffic surged toward Ticino and Italy. Authorities advised alternative routes and rail options, while SBB added 27 special trains. The disruption affects holidaymakers, cross-border commuters and freight schedules at one of Switzerland’s most critical north–south corridors.
Switzerland Temporarily Re-imposes Visas on Georgian Diplomatic and Service Passport Holders
From 3 April 2026, Georgian diplomatic, official and service passport holders will once again need a visa to enter Switzerland. The move aligns Switzerland with the EU’s decision to suspend visa-free access for certain Georgian officials for at least one year. Business and multilateral delegations will face longer lead times, while regular Georgian citizens remain visa-exempt.
