Air Canada-Landline Adds Sarnia (YZR) to Through-Ticket Bus Network
Travellers in Southwestern Ontario will soon be able to start an international itinerary at Sarnia’s Chris Hadfield Airport—even though no commercial aircraft operate there—thanks to an expansion of Air Canada’s partnership with ground-carrier Landline. Airport staff confirmed during an open-house event on 13 March 2026 that twice-daily motor-coach “flights” to Toronto Pearson (YYZ) will begin 15 June, with seats bookable directly on Air Canada’s GDS under a YZR flight number. Landline buses operate as secure, Wi-Fi-equipped coaches branded with an Air Canada tailfin. Passengers check in and drop bags at the local airport, then ride airside-secured coaches to Pearson where they clear security and transfer onto connecting flights. The model—already in use at Waterloo (YKF) and Kingston (YGK)—lets the flag-carrier restore network coverage in thin markets without the cost of regional jets.

Whether your journey begins on a Landline coach or a jet from Pearson, ensuring the right travel documents remains crucial. VisaHQ’s Canadian portal (https://www.visahq.com/canada/) offers travelers and corporate mobility managers a quick, user-friendly way to obtain visas for more than 200 countries, complete with digital applications, courier options, and real-time tracking—so paperwork never stands in the way of a smooth connection.

For corporate mobility managers the announcement is significant. Sarnia hosts dozens of energy and petrochemical companies whose assignees frequently fly long-haul via Toronto. The through-ticket protects connections under Air Passenger Protection Regulations, meaning missed onward flights are re-accommodated like any regular itinerary. Travellers also earn Aeroplan points and can tag baggage through to final destinations, eliminating a car journey of nearly three hours to YYZ. Airport authorities say the service could reduce passenger-car trips by up to 35,000 per year, supporting regional climate goals. They are lobbying Transport Canada to approve on-site CATSA screening so that future Landline departures can enter Pearson’s sterile area directly—a move that would save an additional 40 minutes per journey and make the product more attractive to time-sensitive business travellers. Air Canada hinted that further Landline nodes are under evaluation, including Sudbury and North Bay. If approved, the ground-air model could become a template for reviving connectivity at Canada’s smaller airports amid a chronic pilot shortage and high regional operating costs.
