Hong Kong Makes E-Payment Options Mandatory for All Taxis from 1 April

From 1 April 2026 every taxi in Hong Kong must accept at least one QR-code wallet and one contactless card payment, the Transport Department confirmed on 9 March. More than 40,000 drivers have already enrolled, and industry groups say the cashless mandate will improve passenger convenience and driver income. The move further streamlines ground transport for business travellers and sets the stage for future smart-mobility services.
